We are getting a really weird recurring (and by recurring I mean a couple hundred times a day) call from a caller of "cisco" with no number. There is never a party on the other end. There is no fax, no wait to connect to a rep, nothing. they call all times of the day, I don't know if it's a CID from a cisco VOIP system, or what, but I want to block it.

Is this possible to do?

Depends of where the name "cisco" is coming from.
Make a sysmon trace of such a call and maybe there is a option to block it.

Saw this a few weeks ago. Is your service a PRI from the IPO to the provider's gateway, and SIP on the open Internet to the provider? They are getting port scanned, and causing your invalid calls tagged "cisco". Create valid ICR's for each telephone number on your service, and send the default route to a short code whose action is Barred.

(In my case, the provider kept telling me I needed to put a firewall on the PRI between the IPO and their gateway. What a bunch of maroons!!)

A firewall is a prerequisite for Internet connections of any kind so those so called maroons are right.

A firewall between the IPO and the PRI box? That's a new one[smile]

Kind regards

Gunnar

Oh, yes, bad reading of me, that is new for me too. The provider is responsible for the connection of their router and the internet. That is of no concern for the customer, they only ordered a PRI regardless of the way it is delivered.

Maybe he meant Macaroons? [smile]

Kind regards

Gunnar
