I have a Magix CKE5 processor that when turned on - doesn't go to "cold" or "frigid" start, but instead blinks both the "alert" red light and a small "d" on the display - in unison. I have tried the "trick" of pulling all the jumpers - to force a "frigid" start - with no luck. The processor could be shot - but if anyone has any ideas of how I could try to revive it - they would be appreciated. Would a "forced" installation card help? I don't have one, but do have an upgrade card. Does anyone know what the jumpers on the board do? Is there a "technical" (not user) manual for troubleshooting the board? Thanks...Tom

I had the same problem about 3 years ago with a R3 Legend. I couldn't do anything to it, we just replaced the processor. I am interested as well if anyone even knows what the "d" stands for. It isn't in the maintaince handbook.

I checked the maint manual for the earlier processor (CKE3) and it doesn't show "d" as a valid value. Prior discussion can be found at thread689-745835 if you like.

Just a shot in the dark but check the Keymode / Key-Hybrid mode dipswitches.

ttech: Thanks - but, yes I tried the dip switches in both key and hybrid mode - made no difference. Only way to stop the blinking was to pull one or another of the jumpers - but the board would not initialize (start) - and probably shouldn't with a jumper pulled. A "forced" installation card is suppoced to "force" installation from the pcmcia card instead of stored rom on the CKE5 board - maybe that would work (if the problem is corrupt software)- but since I don't have one - I can't experiment...Tom

I've got a Magix 3 forced upgrade card - if noone else volunteers to help out...

Try removing the battery strap from the processor for a couple of minutes.

Joel: If I can "borrow" your forced upgrade card - let me know. It might be worth a shot to see if it forces this puppy to load clean software....Phoneguysfault: If removing the "battery straps" means pulling the jumpers - I did it the first time for 10 minutes and then overnight - with no effect. I have done that with other CKE5s that were stuck - and a frigid start was accomplished successfully - but not with this board. Does anyone out there know what different jumper configurations wull do? Is there a tech manual out there somewhere that explains their function?? Thanks, Tom

Is this the only CKE5 you have?

Let me know and I can tell you what I have done.

In recent months I have purchased several in order to have a complete LAB, and I have been sucessful in bringing the deadest ones back to life.

merlinman: I have a few extra CKE5s - including one I was able to revive. Let me know about your "lab" experiments and successes.
