Blinking cursor

My ACT 2000 program running on XP has
suddenly started to show a rapidly blinking
cursor with does not allow me to use ACT.
The blinking ends and the cursor becomes
operative as soon as I move it off the ACT
portion of the screen.
Any suggestions?
I recenly downloaded WebRoot SpySweeper but
no other program.
