I am pushing out updates via WSUS and recently I have noticed blankscreen on number of the PC's company wide. I have no idea what's going on.
I also took those PC's off from WSUS and restored back to couple weeks boots up fine. I manually installed updates one by one, works fine.
After so many day's blankscreen again (PC is still not on WSUS), (note: I only push out security and critical update via WSUS)

any one going through same problem. I almost positive it's not WSUS.

Check the video cable, duh. Sorry couldn't resist.

Did you check for any VNC/Remote connection processes?

without touching the video cable we do a restore and it works, so nothing wrong with video cable. I also tried brand new cable and monitor.
Any other thing I need to look into?

Thanks for your help.

Ok let me understand this and anyone else who might assist. You are absolutely positive that AFTER you installed WSUS, your monitors went blank. I was kidding about the cables b/c you would have tried that already. I was thinking more along the lines of maybe someone is doing remote connections into the PCs such as UltraVNC, etc. and blanking out the monitors while connected. If there are no VNC processes running, maybe check your Power settings? Sorry just thinking of all the blank monitor experiences I went through...

I tried almost everything I can. I restored all blankscreen PC's couple weeks and they were up and running. I installed updates one by one to figure out which update is causing this. But still cannot figure out what really is going wrong here.

thanks

There's so many ways to troubleshoot. How about you install pcanywhere or vnc on the affected computers. Repeat everything you did before to get blank screen then renotely view what is happening on the PCs. There's probably an error message that you can't see. Don't just let this go lol... aren't you curious?

I tried everything possible but still cannot figure out the root cause. Still not giving up as there are number of PC's I can try. We also install Landesk agent on all pc's so may be that's what I am going to try next. Another thing I found out was, most of the PC were imaged using imaging software with out sysprep.

thanks for you help.

You still didn't respond to my suggestion. 1) Install VNC and wait for monitors to blank. Log into the blanked PC with VNC and see what is going on. (Your monitor is off but your computer is still on doing something, right?)

Hi this happened to me. I approve a patch on WSUS and the next day (after scheduled reboot) the screen in blank. I need to restart by holding the power key for 10 secons. I have not looked into it yet but will the next time I roll out a patch.

I use a dell 620 in a dock station.
