Blank white screen

Starting up computer, normal. Desktop, normal. When any icon is clicked including email, the screen goes blank until the left mouse button is clicked. Then the place the cursor was when clicked becomes visable. Most menus and writing is grayed out until clicked.Any ideas or similar problems encounters with solutions welcome.

Sounds like a software problem.

The answer is "42"
