Using Arcserve 6.61 for NT w/Exchange DB Agent. Configured for FULL backup, GFS 4/4/24. I have done a quick erase plus on the tape, however it always appears to format the tape, start the backup, but almost immediately asks for a BLANK (even though I had done the Quick Erase). When I look at the Media Pool, it has put the tape into the "Save Set". For some reason it won't write to the tape. Is it possible that I have a bad tape or need to do a Full Format? Or does this sound more like a database problem? I have already done a full re-initialize on the Arcserve databases, however this appears not to have helped. Also recreated job serveral times, to no avail.

One other note, this server WAS configured with an incremental backup scheme before, and I am using the tapes that were being used in that scheme. Since I have changed it to the GFS Full backup, is it possible that there are Set Marks written on the tape that aren't being erased with the quick erase?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Just want to make sure your doing a quick erase PLUS. Also, you may want to check the media pools and see what is the minimum number of media set to. If it is set too high then no tapes that get into the save set will ever be released into the scratch set until the condition of minimum media is satisfied. Is it possible for you to blow away the pools and recreate the GFS job?

Also, make sure the options for the job are not on append, but are on overwrite blank media first, then same media name, then any media.

Also, try formatting the tapes for use with the specific media pool and this will place them into the available scratch set, this should help ARCserve to use that particular tape.

Hope this helps,
