I have exchange 2000, but it is stressed low on disk space and memory. I am upgrading to 2003, within 6 months. Speaking of push technology, I am getting pushed to set-up a blackberry server sooner.. If I set up the blackberry on a seperate server from exchange is it going to reduce the load for storage or memory on exchange? or just run on a different server??? I wish cingular would step up to the plate and convert attachements for their users...

Any thoughts on running the blackberry service on a different server

thanks

Absolutely run it on a different box. It won't make Exchange faster though as it is a glorified MAPI client.

If you can get the BES to run on the same box as your exchange server is, more power to you... If you do get it running, you *will* have problems and RIM ain't gonna help you. Keep in mind that a BES server maintains a MAPI connection for each of you BB users and polls every 5 seconds or so, so it's going to put some extra load on your exchange server.

As well, all of the information pertaining to the users BB is stored on the exchange server itself, so if you are running low on space yer gonna be really low on space depending on how many users you will have.
