Blackberry Novice Needs Help

Hello Everyone,

I am new to the Blackberry world and a remote user have a problem. Blackberry is 8700, and laptop has Windows XP Professional SP2,Office/Outlook 2003. This is what he wants to do:

1.Unable to sync new BB to the Exchange server. It just stays there with the message "trying to connect " but nothing happens.The message just stays there forever.
2.Sync the existing BB to the new BB.
3.Be able to load software on laptop so hard drive can be sync to hand held.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Desktop Manager software about 4 times,but to no avail and also searched BB web site for possible answers but did not come up with a direct solution.
To the forum community, I am very sorry to post this many questions, I am just a novice to the world of BB.

Are all the questions for the same user?

Does the user have Full Permissions to install software on the Laptop?

1. I can't tell you how many times I've called the carrier to ensure that the user has the Blackberry data plan added to the device. There are some tests you can do with the carrier that can ensure the data plan is working properly.
You may also want to WIPE the handheld and take out the batter for 30 sec while holding down the power button

Question: How are you activating the user on the BES?

2. I don't understand the question but if the user has a working BlackBerry on the BES and your activating another BlackBerry for that user you can "Set Activation Password" or "Generate and Email Activation Passwords"

3. Are you getting an error?

Hello Steve,

The user has permission to install software and the BB is for the same user. No error messages while attempting to synch to the Exchange server. It just reads " trying to connect"....nothing else happens.
As for the activation method, I will find out from the Administrator how this was done.
