Today after receiving messages the next time the handheld reconciled the device showed a blue folder next to the messages. I thought this was weird so I opened the message backup and at the very top it shows its in a new folder called Quarantine. I do have a quarantine folder in outlook on my computer that is empty. For giggles i moved that seemingly empty folder to the deleted folder and suddenly all messages on the blackberry with the blue folders were gone. Does someone know what exactly is happening? It feels like my emails are being moved to be viewed by someone else. I have deleted myself from the BES server and reactivated and the issue is gone. Its like I broke a filter that might have been put in place. The weird part was that the Quarantine folder was empty in Outlook but when deleted it removed my message from the blackberry. Any insight would be very helpful to see what someone my being doing on my network.

Check the "Hide Filed messages" setting on your message options. If it is "NO" then all messages appear in the Blackberry "Inbox". Sounds like you want to set it to "YES

Great suggestion. I do want that enabled.

Why would the messages be automatically moving to that quarantine folder if no rules were setup by me to do that?

If I had that option set to Yes before then those messages should have disappeared when they were filed. But why were they being filed? And why were they not showing up in that Outlook file but would disappear on the blackberry once I deleted that folder? Weird stuff.

Here's how I read it...

- Something in your Outlook client or anti-virus application is moving messages to a "Quarantined" folder in Outlook.
- The BES sees this and files it on the device under the same folder.
- As you had HIDE FILED MESSAGES set to NO the device shows the message in the message list (not the Inbox), but sets the icon to a folder to indicate it's in a sub-folder.
- Something is then deleting the messages in Outlook, hence you see an empty Quarantine folder, but you don't have Hard Delete Support enabled (only in BES 4.1+) so the BES never sees the deletion and therefore never updates the device. (Hard Delete - bypasses the deleted items folder, which is where the BES sees a message has been deleted
- When you moved the whole Quarantine folder to the Deleted Items, the BES see the folder in Deleted Items and sends a reconcile to the device to delete all messages in the sub-folder called "Quarantine"

You need to figure out what application (has to be AV somewhere) is moving items to the Quarantine folder and then deleting them.

The BES is acting as designed.

But here is the weird part. The messages that say they are filed in Quarantine on the Blackberry are still in the Outlook inbox. They never move. Almost like they are an invisible copy.

I did solve this by deleting my BES account and redoing the Enterprize Activation. Its just a good topic for discussion especially if it happens again.
