I am attempting to load BBDM Version 4.2.2 onto my Toshiba Satellite 1905 notebook (2.0GHz P4 w/768MB 2100DDR RAM) running XP Home SP2. I have this software loaded onto 2 Dell desktops (a Dimension 520 running XP Home SP2 at home and an Optiplex 320 running XP Pro SP2 at the office), but Desktop Manager keeps crashing when the hand-held unit is connected and trying to perform its initial synchronization and file transafers, causing the "Blackberry Desktop Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close" message to display. I am at my wits' end here - should I try to install BBDM Version 4.3, or will that conflict with the version loaded on my two desktops? Does anyone know a way out of this mess (apart from getting a new laptop)?

Many thanks in advance.

As an addendum to the previous posting, I have completely uninstalled the BlackBerry Desktop Manager v.4.2.2 from the above-mentioned notebook computer. Following what directions I was able to find on the internet (the read-me files and other "instructions" included on the CDROM are woefully inadequate at best), installed the software and connected the BlackBerry device. The initial connection seemed to go normally, but that process ended with a Runtime error saying that the program terminated abnormally. I was able to reproduce the same sequence and results 2 more times after the initial attempt. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Many thanks in advance.

Jpaf, I thank you for your post, but it was to no avail. When I try to synchronize for the first time, I am asked for the device password. Once that is entered, Desktop Mgr opens a box labeled Synchronization Progress over which is next displayed a message saying that a new configuration file has been found and is being applied. Shortly thereafter, a message box labeled Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library displays, bearing the message below:
Runtime Error!
Program: ...ogram Files\Research In Motion\Blackberry\DesktopMgr.exe
abnormal program termination
-upon clicking the OK button in the Runtime Error message box, Desktop Manager closes.
Following the instructions for Cause 1 in the link you posted, I deleted the Research In Motion folder as directed, launched Desktop Mgr, double-clicked Synchronize, verified that the Synchronize Organizer Data box was checked and clicked the Configuration tab. The Configure Synch button was disabled ("grayed-out"). Closing the Synchronize window and double-clicking the Synchronize icon again causes the Synchronize window to open. The only active buttons ion the Configuration Tab are Configure Add-ins (when clicked, this option shows there are no add-ins installed) and Reset configuration (when clicked, this displays a message stating that the configuration for this user has been reset. Closing and launching Desktop Manager perpetuates this loop. Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks.

Using desktop manager/application loader, reload the device. See if that fixes the problem.
