My screen suddenly goes black for a split second when my pc has been on for several hours and then the picture reappears as normal. It only happens when I open a new window.I suppose it might be a cooling issue although I do have a system fan installed.Any ideas guys

Oh yeah, forgot to mention it's a Vizitron 14" TFT monitor.

Check your refresh settings in Display Properties--> Advanced--> Monitor. Don't know what your settings are set at but turn it down a couple notches. Say to 65mhz.

If that isn't the problem my money is on the monitor starting to go. Also have windows put that monitor on stand by, when your away from it, to save its life expectancy. Control Panel--> Power Options.

Hope this helps!

65MHz! I think Gus meant 65Hz.

The majority of TFTs run optimally at a refresh of 60Hz: there is absolutely no advantage or point in increasing above this unless the TFT manufacturer recommends it.

If this happens when you open a new Window, I'd suspect a graphics card defficiency is more likely. Make sure that you have the latest certified driver installed for your Radeon.

I have a similar problem. I'm on Win98 with a Sony CPD-100SX monitor and an Intel 82810E Graphics controller Vers 4.0. My computer doesn't need to be on for hours. The screen goes black for a second. When it comes back everything is still there working fine. Any suggestions?
