Hello:
I have installed the Red Hat 7.3 distribution on a P166 with an 1MB Trident video card, and when i try to start the X server the screen goes black and there is no way to get it back. I have tried with Ctrl+Alt+F2 F3, etc, to change to another session but i can´t get the video back. I addition i have tried to reconfigure the video settings with Xconfigurator and when i do the video test (without starting X) the problem appears again.
When this occurs i press Ctrl+Alt+Del and the system shutdown and restarts cleanly.
The rare thing is that when i have installed the OS the test was successful and the image was OK.

Thank you all, and i hope anyone can helpme because i don´t know what to do.

Daniel.

to get another session alt-f2 alt-f3 etc..
Go there and try to run Xconfigurator again.
