On the BBC news yesterday there was a piece about a prisoner who hanged himself. Apparently two warders have been suspended. An unfortunate confluence of thought on the part of the writer?

Personally, I don't think so, given that you see the word used routinely when people in a position of trust are temporarily removed from their jobs.

True, the word is absoutely appropriate here - still somehow morbid.

Like this (fictive):
A cement truck crashed into a prison transporter. Citizens are warned: 20 hardened criminals on the loose!

They probably gave them enough rope...
