What is the best way to produce a Black and White image (in Photoshop CS2)from a color image and not have any gray scaling?

Thanks.

hdesk, this thread popped up a few days ago: thread229-1273749

if you follow the 1st 1/2 of the steps it should do what you need (ignore the part about coloring)

I like this method:

Image > Mode > Lab Color

Windows > Choose Channels (so it shows a checkmark)

In the layer/Channels/Paths window click the channels tab
Drag "A" channel to trash can below

Drag Alpha 2 channel to trash can below

Image > Mode > GreyScale (optional)

Then if you wish to "age" the photo (make it look old):

Image > Mode > Duotone
Choose Duotone, add a yellow ink and adjust the curve to the "yellowing" you like

Good Luck

I just tried this method and all was OK till I got to the
Image > Mode > Duotone part.
At this point, Duotone is grayed out !
The original image is in RAW format. Is this the reason ? Or is there something else I've overlooked ?

Cheers

...for duotone you need to be in greyscale first...
