Hello,

I have a database that was converted to Access 2000 but is attached to a 97 back end as the tables are shared with a 97 database.
However when I try to open the database to make some amendments I am getting the following message :-
"This database is in an unexpected state; Microsoft Access can't open it. This database has been converted from a prior version of Microsoft Access by using the DAO compactdatabase method instead of the Convert database on the tolls menu (Database utilities submenu). This has left the database in a partially converted state. If you have a copy of the database in its original format, use the convert database on the tools menu to convert it. If the original database is no longer available, create a new database and import your tables and queries to preseve your data. your other database objects can't be recovered"

The database was converted using the normal method in the tools menu,
the original database is available but a lot of additional functionality has been added to the 2000 version so this isn't an option.
I've tried compacting and repairing it, no joy!
It won't let me import any of the tables to preserve my data and the strangest thing of all is that the users can still access the database using the runtime switch. Therefore this problem has been there for a long time and I can't even get a copy of the system from the sever backup. I don't know what to do!!!!

Please help.

Cheers,

Steve. Make things as simple as possible — but no simpler.

I had a somewhat similar problem when I converted my front-end from 95 to 2000. To fix the problem, I created a new database in 2000 and imported all of the forms, etc. from the converted database. It's worth a try if all else fails.

Thanx for the response. I'd already done that and it was my Access 2000 version that I was getting the error through. I've managed to fix it though (and lost a lot of hair in th e process!!!!!!).
I used the shortcut that the users access the database with and removed the runtime switch. For some strage reason this has worked and I've been able to export all the objects into an .mdb file.

If anyone has any ideas why this was the only way I could open the database I'd love to hear them!!

Cheers,

Steve. Make things as simple as possible — but no simpler.
