Seems like Bixolon (Samsung) is really trying to gain market share in the POS printer business. I think Radiant uses Bixolon for some recent Radiant part# printer models (SRP-350 thermal)

Bix SRP-275AP impact uses same ribbon as Epson U220

In case I run across this beast I have a few questions

Does Bixolon have a Serial Port Emulator for USB port printers
(I guess in general do they have as mature a driver and utility support as Epson)

Does the Bixolon drawer kick have the same jack and wiring as an Epson

What kind of reliability have you seen with Bix compared to Epson

Radiant has gone to Bixolon. The Bix printers are very comparable to Epson overall. I have not used a lot of the TM U220s. The Bix 275 seems to be as good but not as good as the Epson U200. But then again the Bix 275 is not as good as the 270, it's prior.

I have no idea if they have a serial port emulator.

The printer port uses the same wiring as Epson.

I have not had a good experience with them. The print head tends to fail if the customer fails to change the ribbon in a timely matter unlike the Epson I rarely see a failed print head and have seen ribbons that print like Braille.

Cheers,
Coorsman

We just picked up a POS company and they were using Bixilon, Gravity, Posiflex and Epson printers. In streamlining the business we are moving forward with only Epson for the following reasons:

* Highly tested and guaranteed performance (cutters, heads & cm per second)
* Only 1 brand to carry
* Interchangeable IFC boards
* Ethernet boards now only $15 when purchased onboard new printer
* Drivers- Easy and work 9/10, if not try the Citizen IDP-3221 driver and it works for all the epson autocut printers.

Next is the supplier companies and warranties:
* We can get 3 year RTB warranty on epson thermal printers, 1 year on kitchen printers
* Bixilon supplier here sells in this state, but has to be sent INTERSTATE for repairs. Makes it costly to return, plus our Bixolon supplier is poor on service (returns get lost because of no RMA entering before sending)
