Must I use all 4 pairs 8 conductors for use with the 410 and the BIS-10 units?

Yes, They wire up just like a 568B data jack. You can you a straight through cat 5 cable to connect to it.

"The lack of understanding is the root of all problems

On the old Merlin units (410 etc) the 4th pair is used as the intercom talk path for station to station calling, if memory serves correctly.

You can get by without the use of the brown pair but you lose a feature that is affiliated with receiving another call when your phone is in use. All four pairs is recommended. I don't recommend using the old Brand Rex adapters, because the weight of the patchcord always used to weigh down the adapter, pull the blue pair loose, and comprimise the talk path. Good luck

Thanks. I will install the recomended 4 pairs.
