The BIOS on my computer won't detect my WD 7200 rpm 20gb hard drive. The problem began after I switched out my faulting network card. I restarted after completing this operation and the computer decided not to boot up. I finally got it to boot, but the BIOS won't detect the hard drive...could someone please provide some insight to this problem...thanks

Check all the cables inside the computer, the IDE data cable may be slightly ajar.

How can it boot if the BIOS doesn't detect the HDD?

See if it's trying to Boot from NIC instead of HDD and use CDROM as first in boot order...Set all IDE to "Auto" detect in BIOS..
One more..Clear the ESCD in BIOS

I would take everything out except the power, memory, cpu, motherboard, and video. Then one by one add the hard drive. Make sure the power and ribbon cables are secure. I know it sounds like a pain (it is) but it's the only sure fire way to find out what is the problem.

Try to make sure the HD is in the primary position on the IDE cable (usually the end of the cable and not the middle plug). I am assuming you only have one HD. Also make sure the HD jumpers in back is set for Master and not Cable Select (CS). Finally try going over your BIOS settings and make sure IDE detection is Auto. It may also help to disable any other IDE drives if none exists to prevent the BIOS from trying to detect it. Finally check with your mobo manufacturer for any BIOS updates.
