Hi

I am having great problems trying to mend a friends PC.
First problem was an error message

<windows root>\system 32\ ntoskrnl.exe - please replace this file.

I tried to get into BIOS to change settings so that I could boot from XP cd and go into recovery panel.

However it would not let me into BIOS – however much I pressed delete or any key at boot up. It just went straight to the windows error message above.

I removed the battery from the m’board to try to reset the cmos, and try again later, but all I get now is

CMOS checksum error - Defaults loaded.

The screen then freezes and again no keys can get me into BIOS.

I have put a new battery into the m’board

Details of PC are - athlon XP2500, windows XP pro.
M’board is Gigabyte GA7n400V –L bios v.6.00PG

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks

Jim

No, but it certainly does seem like the k'board is not communicating with the m'board. I have tested the k'board on another pc amd it is ok.

What I will advice you to do is to disconnect the hard drive and then put the system on.Try now to enter the BIOS setup and do your changes.Contact me again
