Hi there,

I have been trying for several days now to get bind working in a chroot jail and I must be doing something drastically wrong!! [sadeyes]

I can get BIND working perfectly well when the zone files reside under /var/named.

I've been following a HOWTO:

It all fits together until I come to compile the new bind and then it all goes smelly and I end up with no named service on the server! According to the HOWTO I should be able to download the latest BIND (bind-9.2.2.tar.gz) run ./configure && make and then after removing the exiting BIND just type: make install. After running this last command I end up with no named under /etc/rc.d/init.d!!

Has anyone succesfully chrooted BIND under RH8.0? I would love a few good pointers!

I am running RH8.0

PS. I should probably mention that I am quite new to Linux and compiling and installing packages is not my strong point!

Thanks in advance!

Eh? /etc/rc.d/init.d is only starting/stopping script. You have to add one manually if you want to use autostart/stop feature of RH Linux. Check other scripts in /etc/init.d to get the idea. When you create similar one for BIND (you can also modify old script from RPM), use chkconfig --add named and chkconfig named on.
