Hi,

I need to know why if I add the following:
myhostman.com. IN A 206.107.69.66 to the zone file below
I get log/messages> Ignoring out of zone data
Having problems when using dig I get an authority response but no answer. I've stripped the zone file down to bare bones to get domain to resolve.

$TTL 86400
@ IN SOA ns1.myhostman.com. hostmaster.myhostman.com.(
20010824; Serial
12H ; Refresh
1H ; Retry
2W ; Expire
1D ) ; Minimum
IN NS ns1.myhostman.com.
A 206.107.69.66

Hi folks,

I was trying a web site for nslookup.

Most all web sites I enter for ex: tek-tips.com
report back has address x.x.x.x
While if I enter mine I get my zone file heading.
Could this be due to the lack of an A record in my zone file?

thanks

Hi,

Forward zone file should look more like this :

$TTL 86400
@ IN SOA myhostman.com. hostmaster.myhostman.com.(
20010824; Serial
12H ; Refresh
1H ; Retry
2W ; Expire
1D ; Minimum
)
@ IN NS ns1.myhostman.com.
www IN A 206.107.69.66

Hi ifincham,

Thanks for assisting me. I will try this later on today.
The only other question I have should I have anything besides my localhost.localdomain in the hosts file.
It seems to me I would only add host in there if I were using my server for a lan as well.
Got to go...Thks again
