Binary-safe? 1

[Itshim]

I know I probably look like a complete novice, but while reading the PHP Manual I keep seeing "Binary-safe" in function descriptions. Such as: fread -- Binary-safe file read. Can someone tell me what binary-safe means, or provide a link which explains it.
