binary field type ques

I have a make table query with the following expression:

Expr1: [Please enter 'Respond by' date for letter]
the format of this query field is mmmm dd", "yyyy

When the table is created this field has a binary data type and for some reason will not merge into a Word merge document....how can i get the field to have either a text or date/time data type?

You may try this as the very first line of your SQL code:
PARAMETERS [Please enter 'Respond by' date for letter] DateTime;
