A customer of mine won an award from Microsoft using my software today. Bill Gates met with her and received a crash course in my program.

Pretty wild. Again not a programming message but you all helped me make this program the best it could be and it is nice to see it on Microsoft's web site:

Don - make sure Ken Levy knows about this. Great marketing item for VFP.

Tamar

Tamar, I forwarded this on to Ken. Great idea, I am sure he will want to know.

This will be featured in National Advertising for Microsoft from what she has told me. Someone from Microsoft is going to call me to make sure it is OK with me (of course it is).

Needless to say I am quite happy with the whole thing. 15 years of constant work is finally recognized.

Are you a racer as well as a programmer? I looked over your site, Looks like fun stuff for those who like to go fast.
congratulations

wjwjr.. Yes, that is how it all started. I was racing and was not able to calculate what I wanted so I created the logic and calculations. I taught myself Foxpro during this time also. That was about 20,000 revisions go....

Good for you, well done

Congratulations Don. Given the amount of revisions, I would say you earned it. <g>

Yeah, great stuff Don.

Had a look at your website. Have you thought about mentioning this there?

Stewart

Congrats Don, this is very encouraging for someone new to VFP like me. I almost gave up when I could not get auto increments (on dbf tables) and also failed to get cumulative relationships.

You success has made me give this language more seriousness.

This is a fun business, I have sold around 3,600 programs to racers all over the world. (thread184-894953)

Well, I hope your sales increase even more... congratulations!

This kind of notoriety is nice, but my customers are not moved by this. I probably will not get more sales out of the extra exposure but there is no such thing as bad publicity.

It is over 5,000 now by the way. It has been a very good year form me, thanks to the help I get from this, and other forums.

Over 100,000 hits on my web site from microsoft.com in only 10 days is very amazing.

Don,

I probably will not get more sales out of the extra exposure

I wouldn't bet on it. The fact that Microsoft is linking to you will improve your ranking on Google, and that alone will attract more attention from potential customers.

Mike

Don,

In fact, if you do a Google search for drag racing software, you come top of the list.

I have been around a long time in this business. Most of my customers are from "word of mouth" advertising or from Trade Journals and Publications related to racing.

I have been analyzing the web hit results for years, and I can track each advertising change to the number of hits on the site. Most of the time I have a direct hit on the main web site when they come from advertising. This is the first month that the Non Direct Hits have exceeded the direct hits, and this is due to the Microsoft web site. The microsoft.com site directs people to a secondary page on my web site, and this causes a non direct hit.

I normally sell around 125 programs per month, so if it increases then I will know why.

The only downside is I am getting calls from people wanting to sell me services to move my development language to .Net and C#. I am perfectly happy with Visual Foxpro though and tell them to take me off their lists.
