i d/l win32 and when i execute it, i am told the installer on my system needs updating to open this particular file. ok, i go to microsoft but can't locate this upgrade. any ideas? do i need win32? isn't that a package, as opposed to just perl?

(you can tell i'm new)

i have my book, i'm ready to roll. i tackled j/s and now perl is on the horizon. any help would be greatly appreciated and needed. i just want to start coding, but would also like a detailed breakdown to educate myself to this new language, interpreter and all.

thank you!

There are numerous books on Perl, and I'm pretty sure any of them will suffice for the beginning programmer. As you get more advanced, you may look into Waite Press's "PERL" book, or any of the O'Reilly Press books (I think the latter are endorsed by Larry Wall himself). You can also view extensive documentation and some excellent articles at O'Reilly's Perl website:
Best of luck to you,
