Hello
I don't understand...
The last view weeks our backup worked fine.
We have Server 2003, Arcserver 11.1 SP1 with a Tandberg StorageLoader LTO2, that means 7 tapes + one cleaning tape.

I assume the problems began on Nov. 13.
The log-entry in Arcserve was:
E8013, Library Poer on reset
then (logical)
E6500, Client connect to tape failed
then
C3703, Unable to open media
----------------
In the next few days we had always the same errors like
-Client connect to tape failed
-Unable to open media

Suddenly, on Nov. 21. we've got the following message:
E6300, Windows NT SCSI PORT Error
and then again the messages above
----------------
Yesterday and today I'm testing...
Yesterday it started a manually backup job.
for 30min it worked fine, then a new message:
E6096, Media Error [ABSL:4050 CMD:11h TapeName:THURSDAY 2 RID:28440 Barcode:]
(this message never happend before.
then again
SCSI Error and
Unable to write...
But, after 5mins, again a new message:
E6304, Unexpected SCSI Sense code ==> JobID[74], Device[7], ABS[4 0 5 0], SN[xx], CMD[8h], [Read Retry Exhausted], ASCQ[01]

This morning I started again with a manual job.
It startet to load the tape, and started with backup.
Again, after 30min, again the
SCSI Port Error

and so on...
I don't understand where the problem is.
Is there anybody who can help???

One thing I did some weeks ago:
I built in a USB2-adaper from Adaptec in our 2003 Server.
I don't know if there is a problem. In Windows I can't see any conflicts.

According Tandberg we have the newest Firmwares and drivers.

Thanks a lot!

Daniel

Didn't know Adaptec did USB to be honest :)

Ensure the drivers for the tape drive(s) are disabled in Windows device manager to start off (I notice you said you have the 'latest drivers').

If this doesn't help, disable Windows TUR (Test Unit Ready) polling. Information on how to do this and more can be found in this document:

(Point 7 onwards)

Hope this is of use.

he;-) Adaptec is the only one who has a USB2-card for Server 2003...

>Ensure the drivers for the tape drive(s) are disabled in >Windows device manager to start off (I notice you said >you have the 'latest drivers').

what do you mean with this? Can you explain a little bit more?

>If this doesn't help, disable Windows TUR (Test Unit >Ready) polling. Information on how to do this and more >can be found in this document:

ok, after the reboot I will test it
(I've deleted ALL from CA...and startet from the beginning)

Thanks a lot!

Daniel

I still have a question about the
TUR (Test Unit >Ready)-document of Microsoft.

I've found keys under ENUM in my registry with "Tandberg" in the name.
What if I delete all these keys?

I can't find any "service" entries, only Driver or HardwareID.

Daniel

OK, after deleting all an reinstalling ArcServe with all patches, and disabling Windows drivers, I have the following problems:

-Windows NT SCSI PORT Error
-Critical error, library must have at least one library drive assigned (I dont understand, I think I did it in the config wizard)

-Unexpected SCSI Sense Code
-Unable to position media
-The tape drive needs cleaning (THIS message I understand;-)

Whats about the SCSI Port Error?
Loader has SCSI-ID 4, the tape has 5.
I can't find any conflicts.

Thanks a lot.
Daniel

If you're getting the critical error then the library hasn't been setup correctly after you reinstalled - are you seeing both the changer and drive in windows device manager - even if you have disabled the drivers? The doc I referenced previously also has information on running through device configuration.

Is the library fibre or SCSI connected? What HBA are you using to connect?
