Just built some Compaq ML370 G2 servers with Netware 5.1.

Looking at them in Insight Manager, the Service Number shows up as "big pimpin'"

What's going on here? Some disgruntled Compaq techie?

Any ideas on how to get rid of it would be useful.

I have around 20 of these servers but don't have the problem. I can think of two things to check.

Start the server Bios, F10 at start-up, when you select to configure the server, there is a field for Serial number. What does this display?

Bios version on the server, upgrade to latest. You can find it on Smart Start CD release 5.50.

Problem is, the server is live and has on average 150 users logged in. Will have to wait for a scheduled re-boot before I can check this. It's doubtful that I'd go to site to re-boot it anyway, would just do restart server in an rconsole session. As it's Netware, I can't see it needing a reb-boot any time soon either ;)

We also have a number of 370 g2's displaying this "feature"

Did you ever get any replies to your question ?

Nope. Never got a reply as to the cause, Fitzdr suggested a way of resolving the issue, but it's interesting to know that this is not isolated. I have considered calling Compaq support (0870 559 2000) and asking them, but the issue slips my mind as is not causing any problems. If I ever so find an answer, I will post it here.

I have quite a few servers that have his service tag as well.
