Can anyone please tell me if he has seen in a bgp table (sh ip bgp) an origin code other than i (IGP) I am doing several labs for my CCIE and it is something I really didn't pay much attention to during ccnp but it seems it doesn't matter where a route has originated from either igp or egp the origin code always apears to be i. As far as I know orgin attribute can be only modified to igp as well so no good trying to make it seem different. Anyway any answers are welcome, thank you very much.

Hi
One example of how to get 'origin incomplete' if for routes to be advertised via BGP which are not defined by the BGP 'network' command

i.e
BGP 65001
network 10.0.0.0

OSPF 65001
network 10.0.0.0

If redistributing 11.0.0.0 and 12.0.0.0 which is not in the IGP or the BGP network, the show ip bgp will look like this

10.0.0.0 origin igp
11.0.0.0 origin incomplete
12.0.0.0 origin incomplete

If you're doing your CCIE or you're involved with BGP at any level, my advice would be to get this book

Internet Routing Architectures
ISBN: 157870233X
Best £30 you'll ever spend on networking. The BGP example I gave you is straight out of it, page 149

Cheers

Mark

Hi, thanks for the answer which clarifies in which cases incomplete appears, have you ever seen e (egp)? As far as the book is concerned I'll definetelly have a look at it , the ones I am using right now is Cisco BGP-4 Command and Configuration Handbook ISBN : 1-58705-017-x and BGP Design and Implementation ISBN 1-58705-109-5 They are both great books in my opinion with excellent examples and I recently found the configuration handbook in E-Book Form which has proven to be extremelly usefull. Anyway thanks again

configuring bgp has been some stress to me
can anyone tell meof anything helpful for my ccnp exam?
