Hi all,

We are about to make our 2nd site internet available by itself. Both 2 sites would connect to the same provider from it's own local internet gateway, and have its own backup link to another provider(but all the important servers are still located on the 1st site). So does a 2nd ASN helps to make routing a bit easier? If not do we have to implement IBGP b/w the 2 sites?

Thank you.

Jenny

In your case a 2nd ASN will not help you. I have the same situation and we run BGP on both our links and OSPF in between sites. It works like a charm.

We also have another site that runs BGP in the same ASN, but it has no connection to the other sites, so it does not run an IGP.
