for those of you who wish to build a computer from scratch with a logitech internet navigator keyboard. This is what may happen or at least has happened to me.
Right, so you start off all happy because your computer switches on and allows you to go into Bios and everything works and is recognised fine no problem. All the keys on your keboard are working fine. so you save your beutiful setting to CMOS and proceed. POSTing goes well and all so you insert your Windows CD you ask it to set up and everything goes fine. Then the interesting bit kicks in, windows starts loading its basic drivers including keyboard, shortly after this you are asked to accept (F8) or decline (esc) the windows terms and conditions. (there is no by-passing these keys at this stage). Now all the bank of F keys on your keyboard will not respond so you cant accept!!! but you can decline (esc) so your not hanging. At this stage you start going mad because on restarting your system stops at 'veryfing DMI pool data...' and the last thing you may think is that your keyborad is responsible for this because after all all the keys including the F bank work fine in the BIOS setup program.
The problem is the following (i think): Logitech internet nagivator keeyboards have special short cut keys which double as the F keys and this whole arrangement requires the logitech provided driver to work properly. the F keys will not work AT ALL with the simple Windows (XP) divers. Funnely enough they are recognised in the BIOS set up program, also because if they didnt you might as well not have a keyboard.
The solution is the following: borrow another keyboard before you blame it on some other more complicated issue.
if this tip is useless or obviously overcome let me know
