best wireless router for cable connection?

Hi,
I tried a linksys E3000 and its not connecting, some one told me there's finicky routers when it comes to cable hookup. I can't find any real advice online without someone trying to sell me something. Which is the best router $50 to $100 I should get for cable internet?

I have charter communications.
