I'm stuck...
I can't decide who to go with. Norton AV Corporate Edition, CAs InoculateIT or Sophos?? I have seen and read all the different reasons why each is the best but how do I know???

Are there any known issues with any of the above?? And what are the network admins recommending for the "install it and forget it (except for automatic updates)" solution for an antivirus solution??

Thanks

I am a big fan of Sophos, having used it for years, as it is stable, works on several platforms, catches virii and has excellent support. Actually why not try calling the support lines of all the companies you are interested in. If you are put on hold for ages then forget it! if you do get through, ask them about the product - see if they really know it.

But there are some things I don't like about Sophos. As far as I know, there is no easy way of ensuring that when a new PC is connected to the network, Sophos is installed. (They do have a method for scripting this but it isn't neat). I would like to see an MSI package that can be rolled out with Windows 2000 SMS, RIS or other software delivery systems.

Also their admin utility (to see if all clients are running the latest version) is based on Windows Domains. My domain is global and I dont want to browse computers in other countries. (Takes too long). You can specify computer name or IP address but I run a DHCP!

unfortunately I can't comment on the other AV prodcuts as I haven't used them in years. If I were looking, I would check out Trend & Sophos.

I agree with richgill. Sophos has been very solid for us. Of course, AV software is only as good as often as you update it. Make certain that you subscribe to the virus mailing list of whatever vendor you choose. (Some days I get 4 or more alerts from Sophos.) James P. Cottingham
