I have a new 60G hard drive that I plan using for just XP and apps (I already have extra drive for data). I want to know the best way to setup this drive.

Should I have one partition for xp only and another for just apps --what are advanteges of this setup ?

Or is it better to have XP and apps on same partition (c)

Thanks in advance for the advice

Howdy Buzz:

By partitioning, you do shorten the time it takes to scan and defrag..

As for OS on one and apps on the other, I would suggest OS and apps on one and personal docs, pics etc on the other..

Even if you have all your programs on a different partition or hard-drive, if your system crashes and you have to reload, you will have to reload all those programs anyway due to the fact they all put operating files in various areas of Windows.. Without those files, the program won't run.

Dear BuzzMayhem,
I would suggest that SESaskDFC idea is dead right and there is another reason for that choice too:
Problems can arise if you decide to install an extra Hard disk along with the present one, as the 2nd Partition on your present disk will then change its Drive letter from D:\ to E:\ and any Applications on that Partition will then not work either.
The Drive letter is assigned FIRST by the order of the Disks and then by the order of the Partitions.

Original situation:
Disk 1 Partition 1 = C:Disk 1 Partition 2 = D:Disk 1 Partition 3 = E:
After extra Disk is installed:

Disk 1 Partition 1 = C:Disk 2 Partition 1 = D:Disk 1 Partition 2 = E:and so on.

rawr.

I have to agree with SESaskDFC.

the progys would have to be reinstalled anyway, so best to keep personal docs/data on a diff. partition and keep os/progys on one.
