We schedule a report to run every night so that the users can view it during the business hours.

This report uses business views and runs for 3 to 4 hours each night and the cost of running this is not acceptable to our manager.

As of now,the report runs for all the users at night and as the report is grouped by the user name - the user clicks on his name to look at the data pertaining to him.
He doesnot care about the other users data.

Is there a better way to do this to reduce the cost?
Any advise will greatly be appreciated.

Thank you

It's not clear what "cost" are you referring to? There are probably ways to make the report more efficient, but it would be easier to address that aspect if you first provide more detail about what the report does, tables (# of records in each), joins, record selection formula, data source, subreports, etc.

On the question of limiting what each user sees to their own data, the typical approach is report "bursting". There are several tools that can do this, including APOS and 3rd-party Crystal report managers (see list at: such as my Visual CUT software.

- Ido

view, e-mail, export, burst, distribute, and schedule Crystal Reports.
