I have a database that is currently being used on 3 different PCs on a network. I put shortcuts to the db on all 3 for easy access to the file which exists on the network. Soon the db is going to be sent out into the field on 3 lap tops. I am wondering what is the best way to reconcile all the data? The 3 PCs will contain the same data but all 3 lap tops will have different data on them. Do I have to manually bring the data from each lap top into the tables no the file on the network? Or is there another way?

The usual way is to use Replica.

Hope This Helps, PH.

Thanks PHV. When using a replicated db should I be converting the replica back into a regular db periodically and overwriting the original? I'm asking because I believe that synchronization between the replica and the original is not possible.

Hi,

Is the network always correct, are the laptops always correct or do they both have correct updated data to be synchronised?

If the latter, then you must programmatically check for the changes and logically decide on the relevant updates: either the network or laptop or both.
(Remember that laptop 1,2,3 may have totally different quantities for e.g. at any one time - this is a nonsense).

Have you looked at GPRS to enable the laptops to ALWAYS have current data? It is quite simple and cheap.
The data MUST be accessible from a webserver.

I'm going through this, and it makes the only sense.
