I am a relative newbie with respect to SSIS, so I don't know if this is the proper forum for my question.

My file records have over a hundred fields, all different lengths.
The documentation gives the start and end columns for each field.
Record length is 972 characters. There are probably between 20K and 100K records in each file.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Create a Flat File Connection (right-click in the Connection Managers pane). Browse to your file, and specify fixed width for the format.

In the Columns tab, drag the red line to the right until it is just past the trailing two characters (the CR and LF). Then, click on the ruler at the various field limits to demarc your columns.

Use the Advanced tab to name and describe the field/column contents.

Hope this helps get you started!

Jim
