I would like to block particular users from receiving attachments. More specifically, anything.exe

What's the best way to do this? On the client side, with tools-->rules or something on the server via NWAdmin-->Groupwise tools?

I haven't set this up at all before, so any feedback would be great!

Thanks.

There is no way to natively block attachments within GroupWise. You need third-party software and/or firewall. Watchguard is very good at both. Norton SMTP mail gateway is good at checking e-mail.

I couldn't block attachments, but...

I've blocked all hotmail accounts from our server. This helped us out when the State's school district servers were hit by viruses and started sending thousands of them our way. It didn't matter if they were forged or not.

It also is blocking a lot of spam and other rogue viruses.

Maybe this could help you?

You could also create a rule that e-mails you a copy when a certain subject or attachment is sent.

A third party software called Guinevere that works at the GWIA (gateway) level can do that and more. We have been using it for about a year with great results. You can read about it and get a demo at:

I don't rave very often but this is very good!

Cheers,

Mark ;-)
