Best way to access a db behind a firewall using cf

We have a client that mostly runs ASP.

We created an application for them that needs to access their databases. Naturally we do not have access to the clients network. Their intranet is behind a firewall.

We host the application for them. What would be the easiest way to access a db. Can they create a web service or something that we can access via coldfusion.

The db is just a email list that I need to verify against.

A web service would be the easiest solution.
