have a client who uses access 97 to keep a members directory updated for a website. want's to not have to ftp database every time there is a change to it. still wants to keep main Access database on computer in office. Any suggestions? Is there a better solution than keeping data locally?

want to use .asp pages.

thanx in advance

Hi Pils,

OK, so they dont want to ftp each time a change is made, but they will have to copy the database at least once a day.

So do they have NT anywhere in the network? If so you will be able to set up a scheduled job with the "at" command, something like

at 23:00 /every:m,t,w,th,f c:\copydb.bat

Where copydb.bat is a batch file that copies the database to the remote sites. This is assuming though the drives are mapped.

Good Luck

Paul

We just had this in an Access class. You can create a replica of the database (this is like used for a salesman who travels), then synchronize the database when the person returns (put his updates into the main version of the database). I don't know enough to give you more than that, but you should be able to find some information in Access help on replication and syncronization.

Couple of notes:

remote database on win2k webserver using o'reily.

local machine uses win95.

just started to look up info on linking tables and replication.

user wants transparent update in real time. enter on local computer and update on either save or exit.

i like the batch file idea but the user is fairly computer illiterate, and i would like to keep it within the app if i can. mabey some VB coding or a macro?
