I'm back on the market for a good value in antivirus software. The rating sites seem in agreement to steer clear of the big names--McAfee, Norton, etc. I'm looking for a good value, i.e., that along with a reasonable price ($30 front end cost range?), offers:

-reliably up-to-date virus updates
-user-friendly interface
-accessible tech support at low or no cost

There are several good threads already on this subject, the most recent being:

thread760-1233176

Check this out (and other threads) and see if it get's you some answers and if you have more questions, feel free to address them.

Thanks, Erik. The thread seems to range into several other areas, but I did get a confirmation on a recommendation I'd gotten on BitDefender. If anyone has comments on that product or any other they might care to suggest, would be most grateful hearing them.

A good anti virus program is a good idea, but remember that you are working against a new one that hasn't been detected and written into your program. Because of that, the best defense is to avoid downloading your email. Just leave it on the web like yahoo or other free emails. Disable html and delete without even looking at emails that you don't know.

Check out NOD32 it's well priced and way way faster than Norton/SAV and Mcfee.

"NOD32 is the world leader of the Virus Bulletin 100% Awards having won more awards than any competing product. As of April 2006, NOD32 has won 37 of the coveted awards.

“As usual, NOD32 reached a high level of detection that brought another VB 100% award to its collection,” wrote Matt Hamm of Virus Bulletin.
