what is the best or most commonly used software for remote support?

I agree with JayNEC, Alartraq is the best, especially for monitoring multiple switches.

You dug up a really old post. Do you work for alarmtraq?

I agree with phoneguy55. Just Use ASA. All you need is a permanent workstation set up to run ASA and create monitoring reports. It's amazing how flexible you can make it. Just make sure to create a relay address on your Exchange server to get the e-mail to work.

phoneguy55,

Now that this is dug up, can you give more detail on how you use ASA to actively monitor and send e-mail alerts?

Sure. Under the fault and preformance tab. Select monitor alarms and monitor trunks. Configure it to send an email to your blackberry when there is an issue.

From this tab you can also run the trunk analyzer daily to see how "over trunked" you are.

Also, if you have legacy G3's you can use the time sync function from here as well.

I've had all of this setup for years now. Works 100%. I'm not saying that alarmtraq isn't good. But if you looking for a simple way to report alarms via email. This is the cheapest solution.

@dudecrush,

Why do I need a relay address vs. simply plugging in the destination address?
