Hi,

I've run into a setup here:
Leased line with standard external 33k4 async modems on com1, Win95 with win32 ICA client and server = NT4TSE + Metaframe 1.8.
Now the connection is set-up with WIN95 DUN and PPP,so in effect a TCP/IP connection oevr a modem line.

IMHO this can be done more elegant with a direct async ICA connection. Are there any considerations for not implementing a direct ICA connection? Like there's no ring to auto-answer on..

TIA,
Loek Gijben

Only a couple I can think of;

1) Don't install RAS ;-)

2) Set up the modem connections AFTER installing MF1.8 on the server, but BEFORE installing SP2 or 3.

(In other words, you MAY have to rebuild).

:)

Answering my own question:

The modems are set up in a way that one autoanswers the other. We have two US-Robotics couriers for that. So the connection is always up.

To test this you can have two boxes on each end with a terminal session on the connected comport. If you type in one you can see it on the other ones screen.

Now for ICA you need a modem, it just cannot connect directly to a com port.
Fortunately there are null-modem drivers that cheat ICA into thinking it has a modem. For the Citrix box you can use the build in "dial-up networking serial cable between 2 PCs".
Win9X doesn't have that build in type. But you can download an excellent one from Kevin Wells (don't know the chap, but thanks Kevin!)

Finally make an ICA session for these modems and Voila!
