Hi,

we're uing Accpac 5.5.
I', looking for a way to link item numbers to machines we're running.
We mainly order items as repairs or consumables and I'd like to report on what item is linked to what machine.

I was thinking of optional fields but they are a pain to report on and I would have to create at least 80 fields for 80 machines.

I've also been looking at bill of materials (BOM). The master item number would just be a made up number, then the BOM could be my machine number, e.g. MA12.
The component item numbers could be all the item numbers that belong to that machine.

Are there any other ways to solve this?

There are some spare fields on the item master, like the commodity number and the 4 comment fields. Use one of those to track the machine number. BTW you only need to create 1 optional field to track the machine number.

The Service Manager module is precisely designed for machine maintenance tracking.

Thanks for your replies!

I'm actually looking at the service manager module as well. It looks rather complicated to be honest.

If an item is used for more than one machine I cannot capture this information with just one optional field. But won't need 80 either - thats right.

Service Manager is complicated in that it typically drives your service operations. So where Order Entry will capture orders and document what you've shipped so you can invoice the customer, Service Manager brings process flow and management to the picture along with flexible and recurring billing, equipment management and historical analysis and much more.

Technisoft are always up to give demos so let your dealer know that you'd like to at least look at the product and your dealer can arrange it. If your dealer isn't strong on Service Manager support they can team up with other dealers who are strong with Service Manager to assist with that side of the implementation.
