Best Practice: delete I/C 5.5 items

Hi,

We're using Accpac 5.5.
I'd like to delete inactive items in I/C and am looking for some recomendations.

As far as I can think of there seem to be 2 different ways to delete inactive items.
1. I/C Periodic Processing > Delete Inactive Records (I'm almost certain this will result in integrity errors for some modules)
2. Use item number changer to combine all inactive item numbers into 1 item number and delete this item. With this method I need to be very careful the item has a zero qty and is on no sales order or PO.

Which way would you choose or are there any other methods maybe?
