In a network environment with 42 workstations in 2 floors (let's consider 50% on each floor), what is the best option:

a) 1 switch 24 ports on each floor

b) distribute switchs of 8 ports each to attend little groups of workstations.

Considering speed, cost, etc, which is the best option?

tks!

Use 1 switch on each floor , that will the easiest to manage and troubleshoot if you have any problems . You are just adding more points of failure if you start cascading tiny little switches together .

I agree with vipergg, as long as all workstations are within 100 meters of the 24-port switch.

If your building has large floors like I have here, and you have workstations well beyond 100 meters (they should still work if you only go just a little over) then you will need a multimode fiber cable to extend connectivity from the 24-port switch to another switch to be located downstream closer to the workstations.
