We are in the process of moving off our SQL Server 2000 database and on to a SQL Server 2008 database and have ~200 DTS packages that will need to be converted to SSIS Packages. Going through and converting them manually isn't feasible with our constraints. Is there a cheap effective tool to do the conversions?

Some of what is involved is importing data from Excel or other sources before the data manipulation.

Thanks

I don;lt know of a package that does the conversion for you butr as a stop gap to allow you to migrate your packages, you can create an SSIS package that runs a DTS package.

It's not ideal but it would allow you time to convert your packages over after the rest of the system has migrated.

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by

There are products out there to convert DTS to SSIS. I haven't used them, but here is one example:
I for one would not trust a conversion tool implicitly. If you use a tool, you're going to need to thoroughly test the conversions and see what issues, if any, arise.

Here is some more information on running DTS from SQL 2008:

However, have you started your conversion yet? This sounds like something that needs to be analyzed and accounted for prior to starting a conversion. It's unrealistic to start a conversion and "worry about it when the time comes" when you have issues like 200 DTS packages to migrate.
