I have a client with IP Office, an IP 500 (just one) in a single building right now.

They are rapidly approaching 384 users and have a second building next door they are expanding into.

The two buildings are connected by a fiber link (point to point) between the buildings.

My questions...

1) put a second IP 500 in the first building, and connect the two IP 500 units via the LAN for SCN? (Not sure how to "daisy chain" them.)

2) put a second IP 500 in building #2 with a separate PRI and split the extensions? (And provides disaster recovery if the fiber gets cut.)

Option 2 is better.
You can also make some resiliency

Ok, thanks. Another point came up...

Would the two units then connect via the LAN ports and send calls over the fiber?

Actually I think I might have figured it out: use SCN for the ext and to send those calls over the LAN, but for outbound calls, send them out of the PRI that is attached on each unit.

you nailed it.

That would be the way i go. at least if the link is lost both sites can still make calls on the pstn.

See what my brain does when it's not thinking about phones.

depending on the handsets, you might also get some resilience with systems too

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

remember you need a VCM if you are not using IP handsets & a networking licence to network the 2 IPO's

conecting 2 IPO Via scn with isdn at each site for fallback is definetly the ideal option

I would go with option 1: another IP500 with SCN. This way the advantage is that all the users can call each other easier.
The disadvantage is that you will need VCMs for calls between "IP Phones and DS" & "DSs and DSs". You will however do not need VCMs for calls between IP Phones (if you have direct media path)!

Bottom line, for users/employees best interest is to have SCN, for the company's best interest (to be cheaper) is to have a PRI line!

This is only my opinion!

P.

@PaulRoM - I think I might be missing what would make it easier if the two IP 500's are next to each other. How does it make calling each other easier?

As for Option 2, so I need another IP 500, a PRI into it, a networking license in the main IP 500.. probably a couple others (?) ... any other modules?

And I have seen SCN Resilience but not set it up, is that a separate option?

Use fallback SCN instead of SCN.
You will have it from 5.0 and higher.
