I am looking at getting a new harddrive for backing up the 3 PS's that my family has so we dont lose any information in the event of a system virus or a crash. What kind of hard drive is the best, Maxtor, Seagate? I am looking at 60 gig drives here.

personal preference is Maxtor. never had a issue with them at all. Have had issues with others. Really a personnal choice. Would get a 60gig 7200rpm or higher. It's not a problem...It's just a Blood Pressure Monitor

You might also want to consider getting a CD burner. Slower initially but you end up with sequential backups where you can pull back historical stuff. Ed Fair
Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply. Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

Any of the top 4 (Maxtor, Seagate, IBM, Western Digital)
5,400rpm are slighly cheaper and fine for backup use but if you intend possibly to use as the main drive at some point , the extra few bucks for a faster 7,200rpm drive would be worth it.
Avoid refurbished or non descript brands.

I personally prefer Western Digital, but you can't go too far wrong with any of the previously mentioned models.

I agree with paparazi. I prefer IBM myself just cause, but it will probably be a last choice when looking at budget.
