Hello guys,

For long time I using Nortel phone system mostly : CS1K and BCM. (long time may vary for each person cause I know some of you are here before me :))

Anyway, as I said, I am more familiar with CS1K and BCM(more CS1K then BCM). But almost never touched CallPilot... and an other system called Nortel Norstar ICS system.

Therefore, my boss gave me few days to get familiar with those system (Norstar ICS and Call Pilot 100) But I do not know where to start. I read some manual but still in progress... but you guys may give me a best direction...

Few questions and as well as how to get started...
What does exactly it does : is this like CS1K Pbx
How does setup work's for Norstar : new extension, remove, manage DN
How do I access to the system and is it like CS1K in command line, webpage, BCM Element Manager
If I want a IVR menu where I have to setup Call Pilot or Norstar.
and many other questions.

As I do not want you guys do all my work so I can sit here and get all answers. Therefore, I want that you guys guide me : best manual quick sheet, cheat sheet and other helpful tips about those system link or docs .. by the way I am quick learner..

Thank's again

Learning is not enough, you have to apply it...

I can tell you cause I have a good amount of knowledge in the CS, BCM, and Norstar line. CS programming and Norstar CICS programming are nothing alike at all. If you have worked on BCM via telset administration then the CICS will be easy to figure out. If you have never programmed via telset then you will probably be lost. My best advice to you is Google Google Google everything you want to know is well documented when you search for it.

Charm City Communications

I used BCM with Element manager and some time Call Pilot that came with BCM for skillset.

Does Norstar have any software like EM to manage the system or not... I will do my best with friend Google

For the ICS platform, almost everything there is to know can be found in the 3 following documents:
[ul]
[li]Compact (or Modular) ICS [Version] Installer Guide
This document explains how to install the hardware. It also explains programming and describes every setting.[/li]
[li]Compact (or Modular) ICS [Version] System Coordinator Guide
This document tells how to use all the features available on the system.[/li]
[li]Compact (or Modular) ICS [Version] Programming Record
This document is used to write down the configuration of your system.[/li]
[/ul]

These documents can be found easily online, if you don't already have them.

The ICS platform has 2 main products: the Compact ICS (CICS) and the Modular ICS (MICS). You should pick the documents that match your product.

There is a guide for each version of the software. If you don't know which version of the software you have yet, you can pick the latest, which is 7.1. When you will find out for sure which version you are having, you can switch to the proper documents.

As norstarboy125 said, programming is all done using a set with a two-line display.

There is another option, though. There is software called Norstar Remote Utilities (NRU) that let you alter, backup and restore programming from a computer. You then connect to the ICS through a modem. But, it doesn't work out of the box. If you have a CICS, you will need either a software that already has this particular feature enabled or a keycode to enable it. If you have a MICS, you will need a separate device called Remote Access Device (RAD) installed on your system.

For the CallPilot, I think you will want to have a look at these documents:
[ul]
[li]CallPilot 100/150 Installation and Maintenance Guide
This document explains how to install the hardware and how to connect using a browser or a set.[/li]
[li]CallPilot 100/150 Telephone Administration Guide
This document describes how to program the system using a set.[/li]
[li]CallPilot Manager Set Up and Operation Guide
This document describes how to program the system using a browser.[/li]
[li]CallPilot Reference Guide
This document tells how to use the features.[/li]
[li]CallPilot Programming Record
This document is used to write down the configuration of your system.[/li]
[/ul]

Have fun!
