I am using CR XI

I have a target balance on an account to aim for which I can bring into a report together with a calculated balance on the account. I need the best most effiecient formula to calcultae the desired result. I show example of what would be expected in the desired colum below

target balance desired
-10 20 -30
-10 5 -15
-10 0 -10
-10 -5 -5
-10 -10 0
-10 -20 10

10 20 -10
10 10 0
10 5 5
10 0 10
10 -5 15
10 -20 30

Create a formula {@desired}:

{table.target} - {table.balance}

...assuming that you are displaying the detail section in your sample above.

The table . balance is in a group which holds the sum of running total (by account) The group is by account

The target balance is held at the account level in the detail. I suppose what I should so is to do a max value of the target value and place at the group level and then subtract the 2 group values???

Sounds like you would just need the following, placed in the account group footer:

maximum({table.target},{table.account})-{#runningtotal}
